Mr. & Mrs. Donovan

It's sure been a long time! I always feel like that's what I am saying every time I post something new. :) Was a busy summer and busy beginning to fall. It's now time for some blogging!

In August I was so excited to do wedding flowers and decor for my friend and cousin Erin Donovan. Erin and her husband Tony were married in at the Cathedral in Dubuque with a fabulous reception following at the Julien Inn.

Erin and Tony chose shades of orange and purples for her bouquets. We brought together tulips, lisianthus, alstromeria, freesia, calla lilies, day lilies, and kermit mums to create the look the couple wanted. Erin's bouquet was also embellished with purple metallic wire to give her the whimsy look she was excited about having. To really give Erin's bouquet a personal feel she requested her grandmother's handkerchief and Tony and Erin's father's wedding rings.

Here are some pictures for their special day!

Mr. & Mrs. Nathan Specht

Hello! In September of 2008 I got the pleasure of designing the flowers for the Nate and Sarah Specht wedding. I enjoyed working with both Sarah and Nate and talking with them about what they had in mind for flowers. Sarah brought in several picture samples of what she had been dreaming about and Nate offered great support in her decisions. They were such a sweet couple to work with.

It's been long over due that I blog this wedding! So here it is....enjoy the pics. Thank you to Ambroja Photography for providing me with these awesome pictures!

Mr. & Mrs. Droessler

Rachel and Michael were married the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend at Sinsinewa Mound followed by an amazing reception at the Julien in Dubuque. There was nothing that was not fabulous about their day! From the decor to the dresses the whole wedding was amazing. It was a pleasure to be apart of such a beautiful day.

Rachel, her mother, sister, and I met by a referral from Inside Decor Rental in Dubuque. We met only a couple of months prior to the wedding and then kept in touch with a couple additional meetings to create Rachel's vision of her dream wedding flowers.

The bride carried a lush cascading bouquet of peonies, hydrangea, and sweet pea finshed with a full satin stem wrap adorned with a rhinestone band. The maids carried bouquets made entirely of peonies and wore a stem of peony in their hair. Absolutely stunning.
Thank you to Sarah Seeley from Seeley Photography for allowing me to use the photos.

Doug and Caitlyn

Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend! Wanted to post some pictures of a wedding I did in May for Doug and Caitlyn Scherbring. Caitlyn was looking for a county feel to her flowers. We were able to acheive that using tulips, gerbera daisies, and snap dragons accented with boronia and greenery. The pictures were taken by the amazing Tessa Cole of Sackett Photography. You can check out more of her work at www.sackettphotography.com

Mr. and Mrs. Kadoko

It's been so long since I have posted! The wedding season has been a busy one! I am now just getting started on putting some pictures up here. I want to start with a couple who was referred to me by Always & Forever Bridal Boutique in Dyersville. Kelly and her husband live in Texas so we were very limited on our meetings, but we managed to work well with eachother and I think the result was awesome. Here are some pictures.

Cake Tables

Wedding season is here! Next week marks the beginning of all the craziness. I am excited to get started on all the fun projects I have been working on with the happy couples.

In the spirit of the season I thought I would post a couple pictures of one of my favorite things to do for a wedding and the one thing that gets the most "ooooohhhh" and "awwwww." They are called Floral Pave Tabletops. They are designed to use on guest, sign in, or cake tables. I absolutely love them. Enjoy!

*The top piece comes from the John Henry Company. The additional pictures are designs by Posh Wedding & Special Event Floral.

Brian and Kelly

Last summer I got the opportunity to create designs for Brian and Kelly's beautiful August wedding. They had a fabulous wedding day and I was happy to have the opportunity to be apart of that by creating their wedding flowers. Congrats Brian and Kelly!

Engagement Stories

I apologize for not getting the stories up until now! We will be announcing the winners later today as planned. We thank all of you for submitting your stories. We had a blast reading all of them. Here are the top 3 stories that were picked by our judges.

Jamie & Eain Murphy

On December 15, 2003, Eain & I set out with four old manual cameras to spend a funday in NYC & to take Christmas pictures of the city for gifts that year. We started the day super early & had grabbed a quick breakfast at a bagel place in the city. While in grabbing our bite to eat, my car was illegally parked & we got a $100 parking ticket. Was that going to diffuse my fun day in the city – absolutely NOT!
From there, we headed off to St. John’s Divine cathedral where cameras #1 & #2 broke. Was that going to ruin my happy day in the city – no way! While on our way to our next destination, Eain got a call from a friend of his that was a NYC firefighter, saying that since we were in the city, we should swing by his Xmas party at the firehouse later that night for a beer or two.
Then we headed over to Rockefeller Center to take pictures of the Rockefeller Tree. It was super packed there, so Eain was going to drop me off and I would call him when I was finished & he would swing back & pick me up. As I got out of the car & walked into the crowd, I heard a small commotion coming from the car, but when I turned around, I was enveloped by the crowd & couldn’t see what happened. So I pushed & shoved my way through the crowd to get in front of the Tree. What do you think happened? Camera #3 & #4 broke!!!!! Was that going to ruin my fun day in the city – maybe not.
I called Eain, who said that he was parked a block away. As I walked to the car, I realized that something was missing from my car. The commotion that I had heard as I was getting out of the car, was a lady getting into a taxicab. She had threw open the door of the cab & it was taken off my driver’s sideview mirror!!!! By this point, I was fed up. Everything that was happening that day was trying to tell me that it was time to go home.
Eain wanted to hit a hardware store to fix the mirror – we bought some duct tape & taped the mirror back on – classy, right? So Eain decided that we should just head down to the South Street Seaport for some fresh air – that would probably brighten the day a little. The Brooklyn Bridge is my favorite part of the city & Eain knew that, so he was hoping to make a bad day better by taking in the views of the Bridge.
We got down to the South Street Seaport. I started feeling sick & I had to run into the mall there to use the bathroom. I had some serious intestinal problems going on. Right then & there, I was DONE! I wanted to go home. Eain said that we should still walk out on the Bridge to take in some fresh air. The sun had dropped & it was getting pretty cold (it was December in NYC). I thought that he really wanted to go to this Xmas party that night, so he was doing everything in his power to make me feel better.
We start the mile walk out to the Bridge. As we were walking out on the Bridge, I couldn’t tell if I was farting or messing myself -- I'm telling you, it was TIME TO GO HOME. Meanwhile, Eain was pushing & pushing for us to go farther. I stopped at the first structural support & said that it was far enough. Eain said no, let’s keep going. I relented, slowly following him farther & farther out onto the Bridge. Once he decided it was time to stop, he told me that I should turn around and take in the sights of the city. I humored him and turned around looking at the NYC skyline, still freezing my ass off. As I turned back around to tell him that it was great but I really wanted to go home, he was down on one knee & had out the ring! So even through the $100 parking ticket, the four broken cameras, the accident with the sideview mirror & the intestinal problems – it turned out to be one of the best days of my life!

Julie Kaufmann & Robbie Kluesner

All week we were planning on going to a haunted house with some friends on Friday night. Robbie did not want to go, but I did. Robbie said if it was raining he was not going, which there was like a 70% chance it would rain. I was hopeful that it would not rain and left it at that. Friday night comes and it was raining. We argued weather we were going to go to the Haunted house or not. Robbie's excuse was that he wanted to take me out to eat, we hadn't done that in a while and thought it would be nice to just spend the night together. I finally gave up and faced the fact that we would just be going out to eat. I called my friend Abby and told her what was up. As I was talking and kind of disappointed, she comes up with the ideal that she thinks Robbie is going to propose to me. I told her "no way" I thought Robbie would have given me a little warning, not just up and surprising me! I told her if he did I would be calling her at midnight to let her know!! Well, we got ready and drove to Dubuque to eat at Houlihan's, my favorite restaurant. The whole way in I was talking up a storm, Robbie was very quite. I even asked him if something was wrong, he wasn't saying much. He told me that he was just listening to me talk. I for some reason believed him and later realized he probable didn't hear a single word I said!! We got to Houlihan's and they were very busy. But we got our table and ordered our food. We both ordered a drink and sat there talking. Half way through our meal Robbie orders BOTH of us another drink. He normally does not do this, and I thought it was a little weird for him, but whatever, still clueless. After we finished our meal, Robbie was really lingering on and taking his time. I asked him if he was ready to go one time and he said no, so I put my coat on, I could then tell he was looking at me like "she is so clueless, what is her hurry, why is she putting her coat on?" I asked him a second time if he was ready and he responded very sternly "NO", he was then fishing in his coat pocket and I was beginning to realize what was about to happen. The next thing I know Robbie is down on one knee and asking me to marry him, right in the middle of the restaurant!! I was blowen away and of course said "YES". We ran out of the restaurant and got in the car. I kept asking him the whole way home if this was real. We had been dating for over five years, and I think when you wait so long, it doesn't seem real at first. I must have turned the light on in the car about 10 times between Dubuque and Farley, just to see the sparkling ring on my finger!! The rest of the night we spent driving all around to tell our family. And yes, I did call Abby at midnight to tell her. She did not believe me at first, I had to have my sister-in-law get on the phone and talk to her as well before she would believe me!! It was a great night, and I still cannot believe that Robbie surprised me the way he did!!!

Tara Mensen & Sean McMullen
It was October 18, 2008, a sunny gorgeous fall day. Sean wanted to go on a hike in the Mines of Spain which is our favorite place to hike, its beautiful with the fall trees and the view of the Mississippi . So we packed our gear and left for our hike. This time Sean said he wanted to take me to a place he used to come to all the time to get away and be alone; he had never shown this place to anybody. In order to get to this place we had to really hike and climb rocks and bluffs. But it was so worth it. It was beautiful, on top of this huge bluff and overlooking the river. Along our hike Sean was very determined to find walnuts “to eat when we got to our spot” So during our hike he found what he said were walnut trees and pocketed a few walnuts (little did I know he already had them in his pocket anyway). So we get to our spot, he sets down a blanket that was in his backpack and a knife to cut open the walnut. He started his speech about how much he loves me and wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his life with me and opens the walnut where he had previously placed the ring!

Now the kicker is the ring fell out of the walnut! So this is when panic set it, we searched for over an hr for this ring, we looked at the proposal spot, backtracked our steps through our hike and even went back home thinking it may have fallen out between coat swaps, he hadn’t. So we went BACK to the Mines of Spain, retraced our steps and went back to the proposal site and that’s when I found it, about a foot away from the Mississippi drop off! This is when all the emotion set it, we found the ring, it was beautiful, and the proposal (even with the mishap) was the most romantic ever. But it was not over yet, by far.

Sean then told me we had to get home and get dressed because he had “several surprises lined up for me” So I got dressed, the second surprise of the day was dinner at Timmermans, once again with a seat overlooking the Mississippi and a bottle of champagne. Sean never told me what each surprise was until it was happening so I was on my toes all night long, just waiting! The third surprise was a one hour horse and carriage ride at night all around Dubuque , all snuggled up in a blanket and a bottle of wine. The final surprise of the evening was a hotel suite, complete with a dozen roses, rose pedals spread around the room and the bed, candles lit and another bottle of wine. It was way more than I ever expected, and although Sean wishes the ring would have stayed in the walnut as planned to make it even more romantic, imp glad it happened the way it did because now we have a heck of a story behind it!

We set a wedding date for October 9, 2010 Fall is our favorite season which is why he prposed that month and we could not imagine getting married in any other month.

How he got you to say "I Do!"

Hello! I recently was asked to design flowers for a friend who was preparing to propose to his girlfriend. He lit candles, put rose petals on the bed, accented the room with beautiful floral arrangements and surprised her with a proposal. So romantic!

I love to hear proposal stories as I am sure you do too! In light of this, Always and Forever Bridal Boutique and Posh Weddings has decided to have a contest! Giving Back on Your Special Day!

You've just wrapped the fabulous wedding you had been planning for months maybe years. Your cake top has been carefully preserved in the freezer for your 1st anniversary, you've designated someone to take the tuxes back on Monday, your dress has been sent to the cleaners, and you're all packed for your much awaited honeymoon, but what about all those flowers? Unless you plan to water tube those centerpieces and smuggle them into your carry-on to enjoy while sipping fruity drinks on the beach, they are all going to sit at home or in the back of someones car and slowly wilt away.

Lucky for you and your conscience, there is another alternative! Why not spread the love and share them with someone else, after all isn't that what your wedding day was all about. There are many nursing homes, hospitals, and other care facilities that would be glad to take them off your hands and I bet some of them would even come get the flowers after your special day is over. Be sure to check with your local care facilities as to what their rules and regulations are.

Flowers are love's truest language.

Bridal Show

Hello! I just wanted to share some pictures from Sunday's Bridal Show in Cedar Rapids. I tagged along with Micky and Sarah from Always & Forever Bridal Boutique in Dyersville and we had a blast. It was fun meeting other vendors and lots of brides!

We got the pleasure of trying out some fantastic food from caterers, listened to beautiful violin and cello music by Heartstrings, and laughed hysterically at the pictures we took at the 2 photobooth vendors that attended the show. Seems to be the newest in guest entertainment at weddings. We are pretty certain Joe's Photobooth will be at the 2009 Always & Forever Bridal Show on Feb 8th at the Dyersville Commerical Club Park. If so you'll get to hop in the booth and try it out for yourself!

Hope you are all able to make it to the Dyersville show. We are certain you will find some wonderful vendors and be entertained by an awesome fashion show! Host Always & Forever Bridal Boutique, and Sponsors Posh Weddings, and A Fleeting Moment Photography, along with many other vendors hope to see you there!
